What is Skull Base Surgery ?

Skull base surgery is the surgery performed to excise, remove or limit the growth of certain pathologies like cysts and tumors occurring at the base of the skull. The surgery may also be done to treat cerebral neuropathies and certain nerve problems. The two types of skull base surgery based on the approach are- minimally invasive surgery and open skull base surgery. Patients suffering from an acute headache, trauma, visual problems, and severe infections may be advised of this surgery when pharmacological treatment proves to be ineffective. MRI, CT, CBCT, and/or biopsy can be done before the procedure.
