What is TENS ?

Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation or TENS, is a non-invasive physiotherapy method of pain relief where mild electrical current is passed to the affected nerve endings and pain managed. This is the choice of treatment in patients suffering from post-traumatic pain, lower rib or back pain, arthritis, head and neck pain, nerve neuralgias, jaw pain, facial muscle pain, peripheral nerve injuries and more. The low-frequency electric currents are passed through skin surface electrodes. The nerve stimulation reception and pain pathways are suppressed using this current, thus, resulting in decreased pain. There are different TENS techniques based on the range of frequencies used.
